XR808 and XR8 Smart Tracker Metal Detector Manual
I bought this metal detector in 2011 from an older woman who was selling off a lot of her husband's junk. I had no idea how to use it, and was always getting false signals. After lots of searching, I was able to find a manual for this metal detector online in a forum post from 2007.
I am very grateful for their help, and I am uploading a copy of the manual here in case that forum is deleted. You can download the manual below from one of the links.

Whenever it is powered on, it should make a buzzing or a beeping noise.
NOTE: these steps will work for nearly all TR detectors, including the Techna XR8 and Techna XR808, as well as the Techna TR7, and Techna TR6. Depending on the model, your detector may have more or less knobs to adjust, but simply put, as long as it has a DS/TR knob, these instructions should work
To tune the detector folow these steps
1) turn the detector OFF.
2) turn both the DS/TR tuner and the DS gain knobs to the center, indicated either by an arrow or a triangle. If your model does not have a DS gain knob, don't worry, just move the DS/TR knob
3) hold the detector between 1 and 3 inches above dirt where no metal is present
4) turn the detector ON and adjust volume until the tone is heard
5) turn the tuner knob in the desired direction until the tone just barely stops. It should now be ready for use
NOTE: turning the knob to the RIGHT will tune the detector to find all metals, including iron and lead
turning the knob to the LEFT will tune out "junk" metals such as iron or lead, while still finding coins and precious metals.
